EV9 Set to Debut in 2024 as Three-Row EV Leader

Kia, the renowned South Korean automaker, has officially announced the launch of its three-row electric SUV, the EV9, in India in 2024. This marks a significant step in the company’s electric vehicle (EV) strategy for the Indian market. The EV9, Kia’s second electric car following the EV6, is poised to be the brand’s first three-row EV, aligning with its vision to secure a 15% market share in India’s burgeoning passenger EV segment.

The unveiling of Kia’s India plans for the upcoming year includes not only the EV9 but also the introduction of the new generation Carnival. The EV9, initially showcased during the Auto Expo, will play a pivotal role in Kia’s ambition to compete in a market currently led by Tata Motors. The company aims to strengthen its position in the EV landscape, following the successful launch of the EV6 in India last year.

Set to be based on the Electric Global Modular Platform (E-GMP), the EV9 boasts a length exceeding five meters, offering versatility in six or seven-seat configurations. Two distinct variants, HT Line and GT Line, will be made available to cater to diverse consumer preferences.

Tae-Jin Park, Managing Director and CEO at Kia India, emphasized the company’s commitment to local production of mass-segment EVs, with plans to introduce electric models annually starting from 2025. Kia’s strategic move underscores its dedication to capturing a significant share of India’s evolving EV market, showcasing innovation and sustainability in its lineup.
