Ashok Leyland Commences Construction of EV Plant in Lucknow

Ashok Leyland, the leading entity under the Hinduja Group, achieved a notable milestone on Tuesday by commencing the construction of an integrated commercial vehicle plant in Lucknow, located on Kanpur Road. Emphasizing its dedication to environmentally friendly transportation, the company revealed plans to invest Rs 1,000 crore into this project over the upcoming years

 

Expanding over 70 acres, this new greenfield manufacturing plant is set to position Ashok Leyland as a frontrunner in advanced and environmentally friendly industrial infrastructure worldwide. With a clear focus on sustainability, the company aims to make this facility a symbol of innovation in manufacturing electric buses and other eco-conscious vehicles.

 

Expectations are high for its initial production capacity of 2,500 vehicles per year. However, Ashok Leyland has its sights set even higher, with plans to double this output to 5,000 vehicles annually within the next decade. This ambitious expansion is driven by the growing demand for electric and alternative fuel vehicles in the market. Remarkably, this facility will serve as Ashok Leyland’s seventh vehicle plant in India, underscoring the company’s commitment to meeting the evolving needs of consumers in the automotive sector.

 

Dheeraj Hinduja, Executive Chairman of Ashok Leyland, reiterated the company’s commitment to driving innovation and setting new benchmarks in green mobility. He emphasized the significance of the new plant in line with the company’s goals of achieving net-zero emissions.

 

Additionally, Shenu Agarwal, Managing Director & CEO of Ashok Leyland, highlighted the diverse impact of this facility, stressing its role in meeting the rising demand for electric vehicles while also contributing to the overall development of the region. Agarwal highlighted the company’s focus on electric trucks and buses, aligning with the evolving landscape of sustainable transportation.
