Hyundai’s New Steering System May Make Parking Jobs Way Easier

Hyundai Mobis, the parts supplier arm of Hyundai, has revealed a new steering system called the e-Corner System that could make parking easier for those who struggle with it. The system allows each wheel to be operated independently, opening up new manoeuvring possibilities. In a demonstration video featuring the Ioniq 5, the system is shown performing four impressive manoeuvres, all made possible by the system’s steering angle. This angle enables all four wheels to be turned 90 degrees, creating new possibilities for movement. The first manoeuvre shown is a sideways crab walk, followed by a spin-in-place turn where the front and rear wheels turn in opposite directions. The third manoeuvre is a diagonal turn where all four wheels turn in the same direction, while the fourth manoeuvre is a pivot turn where the rear wheels turn 90 degrees opposite each other.

Although Hyundai has not confirmed whether the e-Corner System will be introduced into production and has not yet released any technical details, a close inspection of the video suggests that each wheel is powered by its own motor or steering system, allowing for independent movement of each wheel. The technology has the potential to revolutionize the way vehicles are manoeuvred, making parking easier and more accessible to everyone.
