MG Comet: 3 things you must check before booking India’s most affordable EV car

MG Comet, the Electric Vehicle (EV) by MG Motor India, is one of the smallest and most affordable in the segment to hit the Indian markets. Bookings have begun for the EV car and users can subscribe to it by paying an advance booking amount of Rs 11,000/-

The hatchback is making waves in the EV segment and drawing attention of many EV enthusiasts as this comes at a modest price of Rs 7- 8 lakh, the cheapest in the electric vehicle category.

This may be your de-factor choice but you must look at some crucial aspects of the car before booking it.

Size & Variant :
MG Comet is small in size and look and may be a concern for car enthusiasts in first look. However, the company has sought to allay these fears by highlighting the BICO concept that it has adhered to. As per ‘Big Inside, Compact Outside’ (BICO), the car has space inside, enough for seating of upto four people. Though, not much information is available about carrying luggage but it would be enough for filling in two backpacks.

The smallest car in the EV segment will come in three variants — Pace, Play & Plush. While the lowest version will have introductory price at Rs 7.98 lakh (ex-showroom price), the top version would be priced at Rs 9.98 lakh.

Charging
The MG Comet comes with a medium-sized battery and claims to have a mileage of 230 km on single charging. In reality, however, you may get a mileage of 180-190 km.

If you are looking for fast charging, you will be disappointed as it has no such feature. The company’s reason for not facilitating with fast charging is that it would have added to costs & pricing.

You can fully charge your MG Comet in about 7 hours, using a standard 3.3 KW electric line. The EV will get charged upto 10%-80% in about 5 hours and upto 100% in 7-hours time.

Safety concern
The MG Comet claims to have all safety mechanisms in place including tyre pressure monitor, rear parking sensors, ISOFIX child seat anchors.

It also claims to have passed at least 39 safety tests including thermal diffusion, seawater immersion tests, drop tests & more.
