BMW will soon start producing its electrified automobiles in India.

According to German luxury automaker BMW, local production of the company’s electric vehicles in India will start soon . In the first half of 2023, electric car sales accounted for 9% of total sales in this country, according to a senior corporate executive. By 2025, he anticipates that percentage to rise to up to 25%. He said that sales of the company’s vehicles have been rising across the nation.

Vikram Pawah, president of BMW Group India, stated in an interview that there are two components to the localization of EVs in India: “one is the volume here, and the other one is the technology.” He said that the business will localise EVS as volumes increased. “The volumes and stability must have some inertia. Positive signals are now emerging. Still early in the process…In the first six months, we only delivered 500 vehicles over four models, which is still a tiny number in that regard, but it is certainly expanding quickly, according to Pawah.

The i7, iX, i4 and MINI SE are the four electric vehicle models that BMW currently offers for sale in the nation. The BMW iX is the company’s best-selling battery electric car in the Indian market. Due to our over 50% market share, we are the undisputed leaders in the premium electric vehicle class, Pawah continued.

In terms of technology, Pawah claimed that the business already uses batteries from generation 5. “This technology is nothing new to us. We have advanced to the point where generation five of this technology has actually begun, and generation six is currently under development. We will therefore decide when is the best moment to localise each one and which one should do so when.Soon it will happen.
The company has future intentions to introduce several of its international EV vehicles to the Indian market.
