Affordable BMW iXI Electric SUV Set to Launch in India

BMW India has unveiled a sneak peek of the eagerly awaited BMW iX1 electric SUV through its official social media channels. Set to be the brand’s most affordable electric SUV, the iX1 is poised to debut in the Indian market in the coming weeks.

Based on the third-generation X1 SUV, the BMW iX1 closely resembles its internal combustion engine (ICE) counterpart, the X1, with minimal design differences. The electric vehicle boasts a closed-off front fascia, BMW’s iconic kidney grille, redesigned LED headlights, and a modified chrome-accented lower bumper.

The iX1 retains the X1’s overall silhouette and side profile but features aerodynamically designed multi-spoke alloy wheels with EV-specific tires. At the rear, it showcases a redesigned tailgate, distinctive L-shaped taillights with chrome detailing, an integrated spoiler, and skid plates for added aesthetics.

Inside, the iX1 maintains the X1’s dashboard layout but offers various upholstery options. It comes equipped with dual 10.7-inch screens for the instrument cluster and infotainment system, dual-zone climate control, a panoramic sunroof, connected car tech, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and safety features like multiple airbags, traction control, ISOFIX mounts, ABS, all-wheel disc brakes, and park assist.

In terms of powertrain options, the global iX1 is available in two configurations: eDrive20 and xDrive30. The eDrive20 boasts a single electric motor with 201 horsepower and 250 Nm of torque, while the xDrive30 features twin electric motors producing 313 horsepower and 495 Nm of torque. Both variants include a 64.7 kWh battery pack and offer a WLTP-rated range of up to 475 kilometers on a single charge.

Expected to enter the Indian market as a completely built unit (CBU), the BMW iX1 is anticipated to be priced around Rs 70 lakh (ex-showroom). It will compete with rivals like the Mercedes-Benz EQB, Volvo XC40 Recharge, Volvo C40 Recharge, Hyundai IONIQ 5, and Kia EV6 upon its launch.
