VinFast, Tesla’s Challenger, Explores Indian Terrain for Mega EV Plant: Eyes Tamil Nadu and Gujarat as Prime Locations.

VinFast Auto, the Vietnamese electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer positioning itself as a rival to Tesla, is actively exploring potential locations for its upcoming electric vehicle manufacturing plant in India. Reports indicate that the company has already surveyed two sites in Tamil Nadu, specifically in the Manalur area north of Chennai and in the southernmost district of Tuticorin. Further assessments for potential sites in Gujarat are reportedly in the pipeline.

Sources suggest that VinFast’s preference for Tamil Nadu is driven by its advantageous East-West connectivity and the essential requirement of a port for logistical operations. The company, eager to establish its presence in the Indian market, has allocated a substantial investment of approximately $200 million for the manufacturing facility. The envisioned timeline for commencing vehicle assembly is set for 2026, as VinFast recognizes India as a market with “tremendous potential.”

Earlier reports from September 28 indicated ongoing discussions regarding the selection of Tamil Nadu and Gujarat as potential manufacturing locations for VinFast. The company, which briefly held the title of the world’s third-most valuable carmaker following its listing on Nasdaq in August, appears to be strategically positioning itself in key global markets.

Queries directed to VinFast regarding these developments remain unanswered as of the latest update. The pursuit of a manufacturing facility in India underscores VinFast’s commitment to expanding its global footprint and competing with industry giants like Tesla in the rapidly evolving electric vehicle landscape.
