Confirmed for release in 2025, the Toyota Hilux EV is set to become a direct competitor to the Isuzu D-Max EV.

Toyota Motor Thailand’s President, Noriaki Yamashita, has revealed that the Hilux EV could potentially be ready by the end of the upcoming year. However, whether the Hilux EV will be produced domestically or imported from overseas remains unspecified. Yamashita also announced that Toyota, the market leader in Thailand, plans to deploy around a dozen Hilux EV pickup trucks for public transportation trials in Pattaya, a popular tourist beach town, starting next month.

The Hilux EV made its debut as the Hilux Revo BEV concept in December 2022, with indications that production would begin within a year. However, Toyota has yet to reveal the technical specifications of the upcoming Hilux EV, including battery capacity, range, power, torque, and more.

Nevertheless, it is expected that the Toyota Hilux EV will feature a standard 4WD system with a dual-battery setup—one on each axle. For comparison, the Isuzu D-Max EV is equipped with a 66.9kWh battery pack and delivers a combined power and torque output of 177hp and 325Nm, respectively. Isuzu’s electric pickup truck has a maximum payload capacity of 1,000kg and a towing capacity of 3,500kg.

In addition to the Hilux, Toyota has also unveiled an Innova Crysta EV concept in Indonesia, although it has not yet entered production.
