Electrifying Independence Day: Mahindra Unveils Thar.E on India’s 77th Anniversary

Mahindra & Mahindra, the largest automaker in India, is also moving towards electric cars. Mahindra’s top-of-the-line Thar electric vehicle has been launched by the firm. On the 77th anniversary of India’s independence, the firm unveiled the five-door Thar EV in South Africa. When the Thar.E is released, it will likely be the first 4×4 electric vehicle.

Mahindra has unveiled a potent car with high ground clearance, contemporary features, and power. The five doors and battery pack required an increase in the wheelbase from 2,775mm to 2,975mm. The car has a unique appearance because to its long grille, square headlamps, and three-lined array of LED lights on one side. Large front bumpers give the appearance more strength.

Grab handles are placed on the sides of the car, which has a flat dashboard inside. A three-spoke steering wheel and a central touch screen are features of the Thar.E. Mahindra’s interior design is simple. Under the car are some flat batteries.

BYD was the supplier of batteries that INGLO used in vehicles like the Mahindra XUV e8. However, it depends on Volkswagen for the battery in the stronger Thar.E. Mahindra will also provide an 80kWh battery for the Thar.E in addition to the 60kWh battery used in INGLO SUVs. As a result, the range will increase from 435 km to 450 km. Mahindra may potentially provide a less powerful battery with a 325 km range.

Mahindra is only currently launching the XUV400, an electric vehicle based on the XUV300. By October 2026, Mahindra hopes to have five electric AVs on the market. Thar.E is one of them. The INGLO platform from Mahindra will host the debut of all electric vehicles.

On Mahindra’s platform, a battery between 60 and 80 kWh is supported.
According to Mahindra, the vehicles that are introduced on this platform would have the ability to charge up to 80% in 30 minutes.
