Is EV the new IT in India

India’s electric vehicle (EV) industry is expected to create ten million direct jobs and another 50 million allied jobs by 2030, according to the Indian Brand Equity Foundation (IBEF). The National Institution for Transforming India estimates that by 2030, 80% of two and three-wheelers, 40% of buses, and 30-70% of cars in India will be EVs, including all government-owned vehicles. This will require as many as 20.5 lakh charging stations by 2030, up from the current 2,700 public charging stations and 5,500 charging connectors. Experts see the EV industry as India’s next big boom, with the potential to create employment opportunities for entrepreneurs, researchers, product designers, mechanical and chemical engineers, IT professionals, quality testers, infrastructure developers, charging station personnel, e-cab owners and drivers, EV maintenance mechanics, personnel who can retrofit vehicles from petrol/diesel to electric, and sales and marketing personnel. To promote the use of EVs, both the central and state governments are rolling out multiple initiatives, including a blueprint to generate 10 million jobs and supply skilled manpower to the industry.
