OSM Plan to Launch India’s First Hydrogen-Based Rickshaw With 400Km Range

In a significant development towards sustainable and eco-friendly mobility solutions in India, a startup company has unveiled the country’s first hydrogen-based electric rickshaw with a range of 400 kilometers.

The new electric rickshaw, developed by E-Vehicle Info Pvt Ltd, is powered by a hydrogen fuel cell that produces electricity by converting hydrogen into energy. This process releases only water and heat as byproducts, making it a zero-emission vehicle that has the potential to significantly reduce India’s carbon footprint.

The electric rickshaw can seat up to four passengers and has a top speed of 50 km/hour. It comes with a 6 kW fuel cell system and a 72V lithium-ion battery, which provides additional power during peak demand. The hydrogen storage tank has a capacity of 1.75 kg and can be refilled in just five minutes.

According to E-Vehicle Info, the electric rickshaw has been extensively tested and validated by various government agencies and meets all safety and performance standards. The company plans to launch the vehicle in select Indian cities, starting with Delhi and NCR, by the end of this year.

The hydrogen-based electric rickshaw is expected to revolutionize last-mile connectivity in India, providing a clean and affordable mode of transportation for millions of people. It also has the potential to create new jobs in the manufacturing and distribution of hydrogen fuel cells and related technologies.

With India’s push towards a cleaner and greener future, the introduction of this hydrogen-based electric rickshaw is a significant step towards achieving the country’s climate goals and reducing its dependence on fossil fuels.
