Switch Mobility Enters Indian eLCV Market with IeV Series

Switch Mobility, known for electric buses in India, has entered the electric light commercial vehicle (eLCV) market with its IeV series. This subsidiary of Ashok Leyland Commercial Vehicles introduced two models, the IeV3 and IeV4, signaling its commitment to electric commercial vehicles.

The IeV3 features a 25.6 kWh LFP battery pack paired with a 40 kW electric motor, delivering 190 Nm of torque. It boasts a 120 km range on a single charge and a payload capacity of up to 1200 kg. Charging takes 6 hours with a 3.3 kW AC charger or just 60 minutes with a 30 kW DC charger.

The larger IeV4 boasts a 32.2 kWh LFP battery pack coupled with a 60 kW electric motor, offering 230 Nm of torque. Its range matches the IeV3 at 120 km, but it can carry up to 1700 kg. Charging takes 8 hours with a 3.3 kW AC charger or 75 minutes with a 30 kW DC charger.

Both eLCV models feature a spacious interior with amenities like electric power steering, hill hold assist, USB charging ports, a touchscreen infotainment system, and Switch ion connect technology for real-time information and tracking.

Switch Mobility invested Rs 100 crore in the development of these vehicles, aiming to strengthen its presence in the electric commercial vehicle market in India. The IeV3 and IeV4 may resemble ICE vehicles in design, with minor cosmetic changes differentiating them. These eLCVs come in body-on-frame construction with a 330V high-voltage EV architecture, capable of holding up to 340 cubic feet of containers.

This move by Switch Mobility aligns with the growing trend of electrification in India’s commercial vehicle market, joining other established brands like Tata and Mahindra in offering electric alternatives.
