Xiaomi SU7 electric vehicle purchasers encounter potential wait times of up to seven months

Xiaomi’s new electric car, the SU7 sedan, is really popular, according to data on their app this Monday. Prospective buyers are being informed that they may encounter a wait of up to seven months, indicative of the strong demand for the Chinese company’s newest automotive offering.

 

Orders for the SU7 sedan opened last Thursday after the pricing announcement, starting at $29,870. Within just 24 hours, pre-orders rapidly increased to an impressive 88,898, signaling significant interest in Xiaomi’s venture into the electric vehicle market.

 

Upon review of Xiaomi’s automotive application on Monday, it was revealed that estimated delivery times for both the standard SU7 model and the SU7 Pro model range from 18 to 21 weeks. In contrast, the highest-tier model, priced at 299,900 yuan, carries a longer wait period of 27 to 30 weeks.

 

In an effort to boost sales, Xiaomi introduced two special editions of the SU7, known as the “Founder’s Edition,” each offering additional perks such as complimentary refrigerators. Notably, the initial batch of 5,000 Founder’s Edition units sold out rapidly after orders opened last Thursday.

 

On Sunday, Xiaomi’s co-founder and CEO, Lei Jun, announced via the Weibo platform that a second round of sales for the Founder’s Edition would be launched, although specific quantities were not disclosed. Additionally, Jun emphasized the implementation of measures to identify and block irregular orders and scalping activities during the ordering process for the Founder’s Edition.
